Over the years, some of my students have been trying to memorise too many new words but without being able to use them correctly. The IELTS speaking test only lasts 11-14 minutes, so I suggested they learn 10-15 new words for each topic we were working on. That way, it was more manageable to use them in the right context and left us with more time to focus on grammar and syntax, which are equally important.
