Telephone conversation- Useful expressions for English learners

Updated: May 18, 2021

Speaking on the phone in a language that isn't your mother tongue is always quite scary. However, there are set phrases that usually people use so this is a typical example:

Employer: Good morning, you've reached Business Solutions. How can I help?

Caller: Hi, can I speak to the Sales Department, please?

Employer: Who’s calling, please?

Caller: It’s Amanda Smith.

Employer: Certainly. Please hold and I’ll put you through.

Caller: Thank you.

…………………………………………………………………………………

Employer: (to the Sales Department), I’ve got Amanda Smith on the phone for you ... OK, I’ll put her through.
